Do Pigeons carry diseases?
The answer is yes. Pigeons can carry a disturbing number of pathogens that can easily spread diseases.  They can carry more than 60 types of pathogens.  It is rare that any of these are deadly to humans though. 
The problems occur when mass levels of pigeons gather causing droppings and feathers to pile up at roosting spots. The piles of droppings and feathers include a few recognized diseases that can affect humans.  The most common pathogens they carry are:

Histoplasmosis is a fungal disease that can be caught when spores of Histoplasma capsulatum are breathed in. The spores are very light and move around easily in the air. This fungus flourishes in damp areas where it is rich in natural material like bird droppings.  Therefore caves, old barns and buildings and chicken enclosures are perfect for the fungus. The bacteria can be inhaled when cleaning up the bird droppings.
The symptoms of Histoplasmosis are dry cough, fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headaches and chills. People that have a mild form of histoplasmosis probably will not show any symptoms.  Nevertheless, some cases can be more serious. People with weak immune systems can suffer Pneumonia, high fever and blood abnormalities. This can be fatal in rare cases.

Cryptococcosis is a common disease found at nesting sites.  It is very similar to the other diseases that birds can carry and can cause infection.  
The symptoms of Cryptococcosis can be mild like Hisoplasmosis.  But one serious form of this disease begins when inhaled yeast-like cells which can cause a lung infection. This disease can then spread to more areas of the body like the central nervous system.  If this is affected, then it can cause meningoencephalitis. This can be fatal if not treated. The second form of this disease is extremely rare and can cause ulcers or blisters under the skin that look like spots.

Parrot Fever which is also known as Psittacosis.  This airborne bacterial pathogen can be transmitted easily as a result of being in close contact to any feathers or bird droppings. Also the droppings can become airborne when they dry out which we can inhale.
The symptoms of Parrot Fever are blood in the saliva when coughing, fatigue, chills and fever, joint and head pains, muscle pain in the neck and head and shortness of breath.  The more severe cases can suffer from severe pneumonia and brain inflammation. Unfortunately, fatal cases have been reported.

Can Pigeons Damage Properties?
Pigeons and other types of birds can be a major nuisance for businesses.  Particularly businesses that are handling food like food factories and food warehouse. Pigeons can become a huge problem inside of these types of premises.
Pigeons and birds can cause damage to the structure of a building.  Pigeons can remove and break roof tiles and damage insulation.  Also, their faeces can corrode metal, paintwork, stone and other building fabrics.
